When I first sae this cakeholder I was amazed, it’s a simple, yet efficient idea to transport cakes. Its nice to bake for friends but it’s difficoult to find the right bag to carry the cakes.
My boyfriend likes to bake, so I made this two cakeholders for his birthday.
In this brief video I show the main points of the process to make one, but you can find written instruction in this post.
You will need:
Outside fabric 38×76 cm
Inside fabric (lining)38×76 cm
Fabric for the handles: two stripes 10×45 cm
Adhesive interlining (optional, it can be used to reinforce the handles or the bottom if the fabric is too thin)
lace, ribbons or bottons for decoration (optional)
Steps
Note: The adhesive interlining needs to be attached before the other steps.
Prepare the handles
Fold the fabric in half, with the right side facing eachother, sew and turn inside ot the handles with the help of a safety pin.
Sew handles, fabric and lining
Spread out the fabric for the outside with the right side up, put the handles on the short side and cover with the lining.
Sew the perimeter leaving a small opening in order to turn the work inside out.
Turn the work inside out and close the opening sewing by hand.
Making a square
Bring the short sides to the centre of the rectangle folding the fabric and sew the edges leaving 1 or 2 cm at the centre.
